Porsche has gone to great lengths to balance both past and future in the design of the 2024 Macan. One of the key challenges for the engineering and design team was balancing the classic Porsche identity with aerodynamic efficiency in order to maximize the electric Macan's range.
Through the innovation known as Porsche Active Aerodynamics, they've accomplished their goal and more. A drag coefficient of 0.25 is achieved through the electric Macan's extending rear spoiler, flat underbody, active cooling flaps, flexible rear axle fairings, optimized tire contours, and more. All of the hard work paid off, as the new Macan is now one of the most aerodynamic SUVs available near Belmont Shore or anywhere.
Porsche maintains its iconic design DNA in the electric Macan, ensuring it unmistakably embodies the essence of a sports car. The new model retains the proportions typical of a Porsche sports car while introducing sharper, more dynamic design elements inside and out. Balancing product identity and aerodynamic efficiency was a key challenge to ensure both the legacy and range of the successful Macan series.
Electric Macan's design seamlessly merges Porsche's signature style with aerodynamic efficiency. Porsche Active Aerodynamics, including an extending rear spoiler and active cooling flaps, enhances range. The flat underbody, flexible rear axle fairings, closed wheels, and optimized tire contours contribute to a drag coefficient of 0.25, making the new Macan one of the most aerodynamic SUVs, significantly impacting efficiency.
Equipped with staggered tire fitment on wheels up to 22 inches, the new Macan features a lengthened wheelbase of 2,893 mm, increased by 86 mm from its predecessor, complemented by short overhangs at the front and rear.
The headlights exhibit a distinctive two-part design, featuring a flat upper light unit with four-point daytime running lights seamlessly integrated into the wings, highlighting the car's width. Positioned slightly lower in the front end, the main headlight module offers optional matrix LED technology.
The rear of the all-new Macan Electric presents a robust aesthetic, characterized by pronounced rear arches and the Porsche logo prominently featured within the sculpted 3D light strip. The active rear spoiler extends at 55 mph, enhancing the vehicle's aggressive stance.
As the inaugural electric SUV in the Porsche lineup, the new Macan Electric is held to high performance standards. It delivers over 450 kW of power through advanced permanently excited synchronous motors located on both the front and rear axles, which also facilitate all-wheel drive for superior maneuverability. Additionally, Porsche's all-wheel drive and optional Launch Control contribute to exceptional driving dynamics by ensuring precise torque distribution to the wheels. Optional rear-axle steering enables a tight 36-foot turning radius, enhancing both low-speed agility and high-speed stability.
Change 11.1-meters to 36 feet (imperial units rather than metric). Active Suspension: Porsche Active Suspension (PASM) ensures a smooth ride by continuously adapting to road conditions, enhancing overall driving performance.
The innovative 800-volt architecture in the new Macan Electric is a refined version of the technology employed in Porsche’s electric sedan, the Taycan. Under optimal conditions, this system allows for charging at 270 kW, enabling a charge from 10% to 80% in just 21 minutes with maximum DC charging power.
The core of the Macan Electric features a pair of permanently excited synchronous motors—one on the front axle and one on the rear. Together with all-wheel drive and a single-speed transmission, the fastest model, the Macan Turbo, achieves an impressive output of 630 horsepower and 833 lb-ft of torque.
Thanks to the 800V architecture, the Macan can be charged from 10% to 80% in 21 minutes on DC maximum charging power. Once the 100 kWh battery is fully charged, it offers an EPA estimated range of 308 miles of electric driving.
Both Macan 4 and Turbo boast all-wheel drive. Two electric motors, controlled in real-time by power electronics, enable the electronically controlled Porsche Traction Management (ePTM) to respond to slip within 10 milliseconds—five times faster than conventional systems.
Behind the wheel of the 2024 Macan, you'll encounter a cockpit that embodies the Porsche ethos. The classic 3-gauge layout is displayed digitally, evoking a sense of familiarity with previous Macan models. The central console, inspired by the 2024 Cayenne, features a haptic-touch control center for A/C and various vehicle settings. In terms of storage, the Macan Electric exceeds expectations with 22 cubic feet of combined cargo space across its two storage compartments: the conventional trunk and an additional area under the hood. Folding the rear seats allows for an extra 25 cubic feet of storage.
The spacious interior is complemented by a new multimedia interface akin to that found in the Cayenne and Taycan, complete with a digital gauge cluster and central screen. An optional passenger display is available, enabling the driver to concentrate on the road while the passenger manages the interior environment.
The Porsche Driver Experience now introduces, for the first time, a head-up display with augmented reality technology. Virtual elements, including navigation arrows, seamlessly integrate into the real world, appearing to the driver at a distance of 10 meters and resembling the size of an 87-inch display.
The front seats can now be adjusted to a slightly lower position, while rear passengers benefit from increased legroom, thanks to the extended wheelbase of 113.9 inches, up from 110.5 inches.
